FAQs

Sonitus DM30 Dustsens particulate monitor
What does the MCERTS certification mean for my site?
MCERTS is the Environment Agency’s Monitoring Certification Scheme. Using an MCERTS certified monitor like the DM30 ensures that your PM10 and PM2.5 data is of a high standard and will be accepted by local authorities as proof of regulatory compliance.

Does the DM30 require a power source on-site?
Yes, the dust monitor requires power for the sensor and the heated inlet. If you cannot provide a 110V or 240V supply to the monitor location, you will also need to hire our dedicated power package to keep the unit operational.

How does the heated inlet help with accuracy?
In damp or foggy weather, moisture in the air can be wrongly counted as dust particles. The DM30 features a heated inlet that dries the air sample before it reaches the sensor, ensuring groundworking and piling teams get a true reading of actual dust levels.

Can I monitor noise and dust from the same unit?
Yes. The DM30 can be factory upgraded to the DM30N version, which combines dust monitoring with a Class 1 sound level meter. This is a cost-effective way for utility companies to manage all boundary testing from a single station.

How are alerts delivered if a dust limit is exceeded?
The system is configured to send instant SMS or email notifications to designated site staff. This allows demolition or earthworks managers to take immediate action, such as dampening down stock piles, before a formal complaint is made.

Is it easy to install on a site hoarding or pole?
The DM30 is supplied with a versatile mounting bracket that makes it quick and easy to secure to walls, hoarding, or poles. Its plug-and-play design means it starts measuring and uploading data as soon as it is powered up.

What happens if the 4G signal is weak on my site?
The monitor has a large internal memory that can store over three years of data locally. If the cellular connection is temporarily lost, the unit will continue to log and will automatically back-fill the cloud data once the signal returns.

How often should the unit be serviced or calibrated?
For most construction environments, we recommend a service and calibration every 12 to 24 months. To minimise downtime, the modular sensor head can be easily swapped out for a pre-calibrated unit without removing the entire enclosure.

Can the unit also measure weather conditions?
Yes, the DM30 can be integrated with an ultrasonic wind sensor. This allows civil engineering teams to correlate dust spikes with wind speed and direction, helping to prove whether dust is leaving the site or blowing in from elsewhere.

What is included in the weekly or monthly reporting service?
We can provide structured reports that summarise your PM levels against pre-set site limits. These reports are ideal for sharing with clients, stakeholders, and local councils to demonstrate your commitment to environmental
